The ride was a great success. We got rained out on Sunday, but Saturday was fun. Got chased by a hunter who seemed to not like us for some reason. Barclay shook his pecker at the guy and he went away. Actually, Barclay (David) just rode with his wanker on the gas tank, and scared him off. I didn't see it, (thank goodness), but I bet the dude is still traumatized.

OK, here's the real story. We have been riding through some posted land for several years. The area shows to belong to the USFS on most maps, and there's no gate, but it is posted no trespassing. Around here it's common for local yokels in the National Forest areas to simply post land as being private when it's really not. They also ignore legal easements and post land as closed when legally they cannot. If there's no gate, we just ride on, especially if there's no houses or anyone to stop and ask. My buddy has been riding and driving through there for 15 years without seeing anyone.

On this ride there was one truck and trailer which we assumed belonged to a hunter since it was deer season. We stopped when we thought we were on the other side of the posted area and Disco took a leak. Just then the hunter came hauling ass up the trail on an ATV. Since he had a gun and we didn't, we just moved on along before he got there. No one noticed Disco with his pecker hanging out until we were on our bikes and headed away.

The grave of Sara Waterman

Seven year old Sarah Waterman took sick about the time the "men" went off on a three day hunt for meat. The women of the family cared for her as best they could. When the men retuned from the hunt it was decided to put Sarah in a wagon and get her to a doctor, either in Hagerville or Clarksville.

The road we took over Pilot Rock Mountain was the only road at that time. Sarah died the same day they left for the doctor on Pilot Rock Mountain near the top of Bowman Hollow and was buried where she died.
